New FedEx International Shipping Rule: Sender and Recipient Emails Required for Online Bookings from November 21

When sending international shipments from China via FedEx, prepare both the sender’s and recipient’s email addresses in advance. In a notice issued on November 3, 2026, FedEx announced that both email addresses will become mandatory when creating international shipping labels, with separate implementation dates for its web platform and API.
Different implementation dates for the two shipping methods
| Shipping method | Effective date | Changes |
|---|---|---|
| FedEx Ship Manager® on fedex.com | November 21, 2026 | Both the sender’s and recipient’s email addresses must be provided when creating international shipping labels |
| FedEx APIs (Ship API) | From January 2027 | Both the sender’s and recipient’s email addresses will also be required |
Customers who create shipments online should add both parties’ email addresses to their frequently used address book entries before November 21. Customers who access the Ship API through an ERP, order management system or other software can contact their system provider in advance to confirm that both the sender’s and recipient’s email addresses can be captured and transmitted in full.
Email addresses should be accurate and checked regularly
FedEx says the update to its shipping tools is intended to address evolving regulatory and customs requirements and reduce shipment delays. Accurate contact information also helps coordinate payments.
FedEx recommends providing the email address of a specific contact person rather than a generic email address, and ensuring that it is accurate and checked regularly.
When preparing shipping information, confirm with the recipient the email address of the person actually responsible for the shipment. Information provided to your shipping agent should also include the sender’s email address. Businesses with existing customer address books or bulk shipping templates can check these two fields in advance to avoid having to add the details shipment by shipment just before dispatch.
